Divine Rivals is a great y/a read, but also a slow read.

July 8, 2024This book was a good idea! It is a love story between two people in a magical world. The use of enchanted typewriters and the love letters sent between them was such a unique concept. However, there were multiple sub plots that left me with lots of questions. The storyline between the two gods, the magic in the world, and the war aspect of the book made the read a bit confusing and lacking. The romance theme in the book is definitely geared towards y/a and is very appropriate for y/a readers. The book is a pretty dull read in the first 3/4 just because of the background info. The last quarter of the book is very rushed, and does not give me much interest in picking up the second book. Though I really do like the authors typewriter and love note idea, I would prefer a book with less subplot and more focus on one or two main concepts.
Excellent plot & characters!

March 26, 2023The hype around this one is well deserved! Rebecca Ross has a beautiful way of writing that really sinks you in to the story and makes it almost impossible to put it down. Divine Rivals is pumped full of plot with a very special magic connecting rivals-to-lovers Iris and Kitt in the midst of a growing war between two gods.
Iris is a fantastic protagonist. She is strong willed, smart/clever and despite her hardships and loneliness in life she is always looking out for others. Iris is the type of person you would be lucky to have as a trusted friend when crap hits the fan because you could always count on her in every way. She is independent but doesnt fall in to any of the usual clichés that make a YA protagonist too much for me. I really loved her and was rooting for her every step of the way!
Kitt and Iris have a perfect rivals-to-lovers setup. Gunning for the same position at their cities newspaper while also secretly being in love with one another gives us plenty of build up that feels natural for their characters and the story at play. They come from very different lives and their independent knowledge and ambitions pair perfectly with one another, two halves to a whole.
The pacing was very well done in my opinion. We werent quickly rushed in to anything and were given proper details for all the things we need to know regarding the war and the world we're in. Nothing felt like it was moving slowly either which is tricky when providing lore.
Overall I think this book is fantastic and everyone should read it! The ending had me clenching my kindle for dear life and now I have to painfully await book 2 (which I absolutely NEED as quickly as possible).

January 3, 2024Length: 20.1cm
Width: 14.5cm
Perfectly wrapped in plastic and one could tell it's new. No damage inside or outside.
Likewise, this is perfect for those who want to read this but tight on money.
But for those who have OCD and plan to buy and read the sequel to this book which is the Ruthless Vow, I advise you to buy it from here too. The same seller.
Because the width and height different is apparent to the eye. The og one would be slightly taller, and the arrangements of the text will be a bit different.
Now, if you don't mind those, then it's perfect.
The cover is fine, the words are clear (some are not, but you can still read it) and there's no visible damage or whatnot.
Overall good and value for money.

However, those letters accidentally reach her rival, Roman. As they connect through these letters, their relationship deepens against the backdrop of a divine conflict. With themes of love, loss, and courage, this book is beautifully written and ideal for fans of slow-burn romance and vivid fantasy worlds.
