July 22, 2024"When on earth are things going to get interesting?"
I'm starting to think that Kate Quinn and I are not a good fit. I read one book by her that I loved but every one since has been a little slow for me. Is it a slow burn or is it just slow? We'll never know because I gave up once this phrase was said at about 25%. The characters seemed interesting but didn't really do anything. I love books set in DC since I grew up there but by the fifth mispronunciation of Macomb Street (which I know since I went to school there), I was just so annoyed I gave up. I know there are many fans of her work and anyone who likes well researched books (minus pronunciation) will enjoy this. It just wasn't for me.
First book by this author and made me want to read more

December 27, 2024This novel is set in the 1960's in Washington D.C during the McCarthy era. The setting is a brownstone boarding house and the story covers the point of view of each woman who rents a room there. The characters are so interesting! It also a murder mystery which makes the story even better! I definitely recommend this book!
Excellent if you Enjoy Character Driven Books

August 17, 2024I loved this book by Kate Quinn 💕. This one was set in Briar House, with a variety of different women. Set in the1950's, when McCarthyism was strong, and Very Defined Roles for women. The woman were fascinating and become like family. Recommend!
Enjoyed this book thoroughly! Highly recommend.

December 18, 2024The book tells the story of each woman living in a boarding house, including the point of view of the son who lives there too. The house is also a character and that's so cleverly written! The book takes place in Washington DC in the 1950's during the McCarthy era.
