This book is a masterpiece with a social message!

This book had to be written! It exposes the manipulation of what should be reliable science by strong characters and commercial interests. It shows how careers can be made and destroyed in what should be a value neutral environment. it shows how science bows to commercial interest and the massive harm such distortion can cause. The pain and suffering of three generations and the ongoing harm that will go on long after the USDA accepts the need for a sound knowledge base to its National Food Guidelines. The aged care homes full of individuals with osteoporosis and other forms of frailty, the cancer epidemic, dementia, obesity, childhood learning disruption! Total distortion of our dietary needs and the right to accurate well formed information on what goes in our mouths. I recall my mother introducing the low fat ideology into the family after advice from a nurse when she had surgery at seventy. We all became sick in one way or another, She eventually died in agony from a disintegrated hip joint aged ninety. My father developed diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. My brother and I polymyalgia rheumatica. All within a short time of the change. We were strong healthy people prior to that. It has been an experiment that went badly wrong and this book exposes the history of that experiment. Changes will be fought by the beneficiaries of this experiment and especially the commercial interests such as the food and drug companies. This must not happen. Thank you Nina for taking the time and putting in the research hours to make this happen.
Healthy Eating and Weight Loss
demokratia· Review provided by ebay.com · December 11, 2018
The author is a clear and good writer and she is deeply involved with what many people today are preoccupied: weight loss. She has been widely praised for this outstanding book which is perhaps the best introduction to modern nutrition. It is serious stuff based on the most scientific data, it is a pleasant journey to the history of food science and a good revelation of the dark and political side of the food industry. There is data that connects the medical world with the pharmaceutical and food industry. As many know, sugar has been condemned for several centuries as a poison by physicians, nutritionists and other scientifically based researchers. Carbs are also another form of poison. Food processing contributes greatly to most of our chronic diseases. There is a kind of info suppression to this dark side which Nina beautifully illumines. So to put it briefly, Nina gives us a pellucid understanding of today's political issues in the world of food and health.
Non-diet, astonishing, health research.

A captivating book that is crammed with simple-to-understand and extremely, well-substantiated, scientific research that is easy to follow. This is not a diet-book or even a heath-book, yet it is full of information about healthful eating habits.
Numerous astounding facts are honestly presented without pressuring or coercing the reader to agree with or accept the author's suggestions. The reader is continually invited to arrive at his own conclusions. In fact, this book often relates pre-existing counter-arguments for any conclusions reached.
Although it is not a history book, its extensively researched and accurate historical detail is so absorbing that I often found myself re-reading some sections. Astonishing facts are supported by copious evidence and are clearly presented in a easily-understandable way, without overly dwelling on assumptions.
If you cannot accept shocking scientific proof of how low-fat diets cause obesity, diabetes & heart disease, DO NOT read this interesting book. The word "Surprise" in its title is a huge understatement!
You need saturated fats for good health. Avoid sugar, wheat, seed oils.

The author has done thorough research to present the compelling facts, namely that the current food pyramid is not based on good science. The last 40+ years have hurt most peoples health and simply enriched the wheat industry, seed oil industry, and big Pharma. If you followed the standard American diet and became pre-diabetic or diabetic, you can change your diet and regain your health. Saturated fat with your meat is necessary and healthy. Polyunsaturated seed oils are highly processed industrial oils and should never be ingested.
